How to search for a phrase?
You can search for a phrase by two ways: 1) Put the phrase in double quotation marks. For example, if you want information on "rheumatoid arthritis", then type "rheumatoid arthritis" including the quotation marks in the search box. If you don't include the quotation marks, you will be searching for documents that have the word "rheumatoid" or the word "arthritis" in the document. ![]() If you enter "rheumatoid arthritis" osteoporosis then you will find documents that contain the phrase "rheumatoid arthritis" or the word "osteoporosis" ![]() 2) Type the phrase without the quotation marks in the search box and then choose "This exact phrase" from pull-down menu on the right of the search box. ![]()
How to perform multiple keyword search?
You can perform multiple keyword search by two ways: 1) Put multiple keywords separated by a space in one search box. By default, words within a search box are connected by OR unless otherwise specified by choosing "ALL of these words" or "This exact phrase" from pull-down menu on the right of the search box. In this case, you will search documents containing any of the keywords. If you choose "ALL of these words", words within a search box will connected by AND, and you will find documents containing all the keywords; if you choose "This exact phrase", words within a search box will be considered as a phrase, documents containing the phrase will appear in the result. In the following example, In "ANY of these words" mode, documents containing "arthritis" or "autoimmune" or "antiinflammatory" or "cartilage degradation" will appear in the result. In "ALL of these words" mode, documents containing "arthritis" and "autoimmune" and "antiinflammatory" and "cartilage degradation" will appear in the result. In "This exact phrase" mode, documents containing the phrase "arthritis autoimmune anti-inflammatory "cartilage degradation"" will appear in the result. 2) Type multiple search terms into multiple search boxes, each with one term including one or more keywords, and then select appropriate Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT) using the pull-down menus on the left to connect the search terms in different search boxes. The AND connector is the default connector between terms. It limits the search results to documents that contain all of terms that are connected by AND. For example, a search conducted by human AND diseases will return documents that mention both human and diseases. The OR connector limits the search results to documents that contain any of terms that are connected by OR. For example, a search for human OR diseases will return all documents that contain the term human or the term diseases. The NOT connector can be used to exclude documents containing certain terms. For example, if you wanted to search for documents about the disease arthritis that did not deal with mouse, the search would be constructed as arthritis NOT mouse.
Why do I see a "Service temporarily unavailable" message?
If PGMapper can't communicate with Ensembl database temporarily, you will see this message. In this case, you don't need to do anything, just waiting at least 10-20min and then try again. The problem should disappear automatically after 10-20min, if it not, please let us know.
Why don't I get any search results?
There are two reasons that you may not get any documents back from your search: an error within the PGMapper itself, or a lack of documents matching your search criteria. If your search was executed properly but did not return any documents, the message "There were no results found" will be displayed. In this case, the search can be redefined by broadening the search terms or by adjusting the search strategy. It's also possible, of course, that the databases just don't have any documents matching your particular query. When an error in the PGMapper itself occurs, you don't need to do anything, just waiting a half hour and try again. This most commonly means that too many documents were returned. This will happen if a common word (for example, and or the) is used. Single letters not included in a phrase will return similar errors. Ensure that you are not using too-common words in your search string. If the error still can't be resolved, please let us know. If you have an error with our service, send a feedback message to us describing the problem.
