Databases

Mouse Genome Informatics
MGI is the international database resource for the laboratory mouse, providing integrated genetic, genomic, and biological data to facilitate the study of human health and disease.

Rat Genome Database
The Rat Genome Database is a collaborative effort between leading research institutions involved in rat genetic and genomic research. Its goal, as stated in RFA: HL-99-013 is the establishment of a Rat Genome Database, to collect, consolidate, and integrate data generated from ongoing rat genetic and genomic research efforts and make these data widely available to the scientific community. A secondary, but critical goal is to provide curation of mapped positions for quantitative trait loci, known mutations and other phenotypic data.

Ensembl Genome Browser
Ensembl is a joint project between EMBL - EBI and the Sanger Institute to develop a software system which produces and maintains automatic annotation on selected eukaryotic genomes.

Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM)
OMIM, Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man, is a catalog of human genes and genetic disorders authored and edited by Dr. Victor A. McKusick and his colleagues at Johns Hopkins and elsewhere, and developed for the World Wide Web by NCBI, the National Center for Biotechnology Information. The database contains textual information and references. It also contains copious links to MEDLINE and sequence records in the Entrez system, and links to additional related resources at NCBI and elsewhere.

ORNL Mutant Mouse Database
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has a large collection of mouse stocks, most of which propagate mutations induced (over a period of several decades) by radiations or chemicals in various stages of male or female gametogenesis. These mutations may range from single base-pair changes to rearrangements of various sizes, depending on mutagen and germ-cell stage. These mutant stocks are available either as live mice or as cryopreserved embryos/gametes/tissues.

Mouse Phenome Database (MPD)
The Mouse Phenome Database is a database of mouse strain characterizations, to facilitate the study and use of laboratory mice in researching human health issues. Phenotype and genotype data presented on this web site are voluntarily contributed by researchers from a variety of institutions and settings, or in some cases retrieved by us from open public sources. MPD goals include:
1) to assist investigators in selecting mouse strains for experiments
2) to provide a standardized platform for discovering genotype/phenotype relationships
3) to provide a standardized collection of reference data on the laboratory mouse

The Whole Mouse Catalog
This Web site serves as a central place to find numerous Internet resources of particular interest to scientific researchers using mice or rats in their work.

MUGEN Mouse Database (MMdb)
The MUGEN Mouse Database (MMdb) is a fully searchable database of murine models of immune processes and immunological diseases. The MMdb is being developed within the context of the MUGEN network of Excellence, a consortium of 21 leading research institutes and universities, and currently holds all mutant mouse models that were developed within the consortium. Its primary aim is to enable information exchange between participating institutions on mouse strain characteristics and availability. More importantly, it aims to create a mouse-centric international forum on modelling of immunological diseases and pave the way to systems biology of the mouse by correlating various genotypic and phenotypic characteristics.
